NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (ILT)  - Best course for beginners & new gun owner

Course Overview

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (ILT) is an in-person beginner level firearm safety course - not a marksmanship or tactical class.  We recommend this course for those who are new to pistols, have limited experience, or want a refresher on basic pistol safety concepts. This objective-based class explores the important facets of firearm ownership including safe gun handling, ammunition, maintenance, storage, and basic shooting techniques.  Continued opportunities for skill development will be discussed.  Students will need a pistol (.22 caliber or greater), 100 rounds of factory ammunition (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude.  Upon successfully passing this course, including basic knowledge exam and shooting lesson, students will meet NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting national standards and will earn an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.

NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting is an in-person beginner level rifle safety course - not a marksmanship or tactical class.  We recommend this course for those who are new to Long Rifle and AR-15 platforms, have limited experience, or want a refresher on basic rifle safety concepts. This objective-based class explores the important facets of rifle ownership including safe handling, ammunition, maintenance, storage, stances (benchrest, standing, prone), and basic scoping & shooting techniques.  Required prerequisites must be completed prior to taking this course.  Continued opportunities for skill development will be discussed.  Students will need a rifle (.22 caliber or greater), 100 rounds of factory ammunition (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude.  Upon successfully passing this course, including basic knowledge exam and shooting lesson, students will meet NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting national standards and will earn an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.

NRA Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH)

Course Overview

NRA Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH) is an in-person intermediate level firearm class for students who are interested in safely protecting their family, home, and surroundings. This objective-based class takes students beyond basic pistol safety concepts to include when you can use your firearm for home defense. "safe room" principles and emergency planning, discouraging thieves, preventing unauthorized use of home firearm, controlling confrontations, awareness mindset, use of cover & concealment, proper interaction with the police after an incident, and basic personal protection shooting techniques & skill development,  Students will need a pistol (9mm caliber or greater), 150 rounds of factory ammunition (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude.  Upon successfully passing this course, including knowledge exam and shooting drills, students will meet NRA Personal Protection in the Home national standards and will earn an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.

NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOTH) is an in-person intermediate level course for students who are interested in protecting themselves and their family while carrying a firearm in public. This objective-based course explores important concealed carry concepts including how to develop a defensive mindset, cover & concealment principles, holstering options for maximum efficiency, concealed carry laws, how to travel with your firearm, when you can shoot for protection of self and others, proper interaction with the police after an incident, aftermath preparation, basic tactical reloading & defensive shooting drills.  Required prerequisites must be completed prior to taking this course.  Students will need a pistol (9mm caliber or greater), 250 rounds of factory ammunition (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), hip or appendix  holster, snap caps, 2 extra magazines, and a positive attitude.  Upon successfully passing this course, including knowledge exam and shooting drills, students will meet NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home national standards and will earn an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 14 hours including live fire training.

NRA Home Firearm Safety is an in-person introductory to firearms class.  We recommend this course for new home owners, first responders, or anyone who wants to learn to safely handle and secure a firearm while in a residential setting. This objective-based class explores the 3 Rules of Safe Gun Handling, primary causes of firearm accidents, how to safely unloading and make safe a variety firearm types, identifying and handling ammunition, overview of firearm cleaning & maintenance, and safe storage options. NRA Defensive Pistol - Advanced

Course Overview

NRA Defensive Pistol is an in-person advanced level course that extends the student's knowledge beyond basic pistol safety and personal protection concepts to apply advanced defensive shooting strategies. This objective-based course includes challenging range drills, one and two handed shooting, shooting in-motion and in low-light conditions (when available), awareness and mental preparation development, using a backup firearm, reloading under stress and when injured, emergency clearance of stoppages, and advanced strategies for more effective personal defense and survival.  Required prerequisites must be completed prior to taking this course.  Students will need a pistol (9mm caliber or greater), 300 rounds of factory ammunition (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), hip or appendix  holster, snap caps, 2 extra magazines, and a positive attitude.  Upon successfully passing this course, including knowledge exam and advanced shooting drills, students will meet NRA Defensive Pistol national standards and will earn an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 6 hours including live fire training.  *Must be 18 or older.

NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) certification was developed in response to the demand for a nationally-recognized range safety officers.  NRA Range Safety Officers possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.  This includes conducting range inspections, enforce range rules, clear stoppages and malfunctions, conduct safety briefings, and understand and control emergency procedures.  This objective based class is highly recommended for all firearms instructors, range personnel, gun club volunteers, and gun shop staff.  Students must pass their Range Safety Officer exam with a 90% or better in order to earn their official NRA certification rating.  Approximately 9 hours (non-shooting course).

 

*This is course is also a prerequisite for NRA Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO)  Instructor Certification (see the "Instructor Certification" page for more information).

NRA Basic CCW  is an in-person intermediate level course for students who are interested in carrying a concealed pistol for personal protection in public..  We recommend this course for those who are new to concealed carry concepts. This objective-basic course explores important aspects CCW including firearm safety, selecting a pistol for self defense, personal protection ammunition selection, basic concealed carry concepts, shooting from concealment, tactical reloading, situational awareness, defensive mindset, holstering, and basic personal defense shooting techniques.  Continued opportunities for skill development is discussed.  Students will need a pistol (9mm caliber or greater), 200 rounds of factory ammunition (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), hip or appendix  holster, snap caps, 2 extra magazines, and a positive attitude.  Upon successfully passing this course, including knowledge exam and shooting drills, students will meet NRA Basic CCW national standards and will earn an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 10 hours including live fire training.

This intermediate class is for those who have taken an entry level AR-15 class and are ready to take their skills to the next level AR-15 Skill Development is a full day class where students build upon existing basic pistol concepts and abilities using advanced monitoring technology and proven training techniques.  Students who complete this course will shoot an average of 50% more accurately and will be prepared to take courses like AR-15 3: Home Defense or Level 1 Concealed Carry classes.  Courses are taught by certified trainers.  Students will need an AR-15 platform rifle (.22 caliber or greater), 200 rounds of factory ammunition (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude.  Approximately 5 hours including live fire training.

This class is for advanced students who have attended the AR-15  Level 1: FUNdamentals and AR-15 Level 2: Skill Development courses.  The course builds on your basic and intermediate rifle knowledge and skills to encompass advanced personal defense strategies,  Students are introduced to the judicial use of an AR-15 rifle for home and personal defense. An overview of current laws are discussed and additional advanced shooting techniques are introduced.  For safety purposes, the Beginner and Intermediate AR-15 class must be attended prior to attending this course -  there are no exceptions.  Review of current laws on judicial use of a firearm in the home (consult an attorney for legal interpretation of the law).
